Throughout this project, I had to conduct multiple meetings with Lauren Becker-Rosen, analyze both, the site and building for this project, layout and design every room in this 4-story home, and pick every last detail that went into this home, amongst other things. This class consisted of measured assignments where I had to measure and draft building of different sizes, from the infamous SCAD Library and SCAD Museum, to local, historic Savannah Houses near Troup Square, and emphasize every last detail from wall thicknesses to crevices around columns and even decorative coffee table books! A year later, COVID-19 hit, we were sent home, and my first Interior Design studio was offered online. This studio was hand drafted and hand rendered based, to make sure the skills we were tough a year before were still polished. When we were given the guidelines to our capstone project, I remember asking myself, “what can I do that this school has never seen before…” This project began with finding an initial problem, big or small, and designing a solution. Through my research, I discovered that 55% of frequent leisure fliers would take more trips each year if the hassle on the airplane could be reduced or eliminated, leading me to redesign the Airbus A380 with a focus on luxury leisure travel for the post Covid - 19 pandemic lifestyle. Through this process, I had to do everything from multiple in-depth precedent studies, code and building analysis, user assessments, programming, and project conceptualization in order to effectively communicating my design. Concept When drinking gin, or any cocktail for that matter, the experience is almost as important as the drink itself. That is why this project is centered around the experience of drinking gin, and how Gray Whale Gin is all about enjoying it with 6 specific botanicals: juniper, limes, fig trees, sea kelp, mint, and almonds. Goal The overall goal for this project was to provide the customer with all that was a needed to craft the perfect drink, as well as providing a special moment when opening the package. Materials Gray Whale Gin values protecting the Earth, especially the ocean and everything inside, which is why when it came to the materiality for this project, their ideas and beliefs spearheaded the selection process. This packaging system was made out of scrap wood left behind from previous quarters at the ClarkLAB at SCAD, as well as reusing old jewelry bead containers and biodegradable crinkle cut paper used to protect a gift previously received. Simba’s *human friendly* Yard is designed in a way where all food and drinks are divided 50/50, where half are human friendly and the other half are pet friendly, giving all pets that visit the opportunity to enjoy meals as well. 50% of the proceeded from sales will be donated to the Miami Dade Animal Shelter. Alongside that, you can “donate a meal” by buying one of Simba’s menu items for any animal in the shelter to enjoy. Goal 22 is a social issue campaign designed for The Mission 22 organization, support by the US Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), which uncovers the reality of veteran suicide. The overall goal for this project was to educate the general public with bold advertising, graphic design, and copywriting on the severity of the issue of veteran suicide, sparking conversations for this unspoken battle in the U.S. Concept This initiative will have a serious, heavy, and attention-grabbing tone, yet will be very informational to non-veterans. The message will be comprised of impactful statistics visualized through strong imagery, heavy bold text, and testimonials from veterans who have been affected by this issue. With premium seat tickets starting at $7,000 and first class seats going up to $25,000 USD for a one-way trip, this charter-like redesign is meant to portray the Airbus A380 was ana experience, rather than just a means of transportation from Point A to Point B. Goal Designed with the client British Airways in mind, this aircraft was redesigned to make the flier feel like the airplane is equally as special as the destination en route, instead of just a means of transportation.
